Oban to Oban Cruise Exploring Southern Hebrides

 Registration Closed
Date: 11 August 2018 12:00 - 18 August 2018 12:00

Venue: Oban

With a Scottish skipper & guide who has extensively sailed in this part of the Hebrides.
The theme for the week will be a blend of interesting sailing to include remote anchorages combined with runs ashore to restaurants, pubs & distilleries.

Enc is the potential cruising area with the actual chosen route as always subject to the weather.
Southern Inner Hebrides.....the orange arrow marks Oban :

Potential distillery tours could include a small selection from Oban, Jura and any of the Islay distilleries.... Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Caol Ila and Bunnahbhain.
All producing the very best and very different classic malt whiskies.
This area has several potentially very challenging tidal gates including Sound of Islay, Dorus Mor, Gulf of Corryvreckan, Sound of Luing, Cuan Sound with tidal streams of up to 8KN at Springs.
All making for interesting Passage Planning.
The Loch Melfort area represents safety from the the Atlantic swell and any excessively strong winds from any potential south westerlies.
Getting there via the Cuan Sound can make for a very interesting passage :)
Weather permitting one of my favourites is Loch Tarbet on the west of Jura It stretches across the most uninhabited part of Jura for miles, almost cutting the island in two and has an interesting entrance.
Another favourite is Gigha which is a little gem with welcoming pub & restaurant
Loch Spelve on the SE of Mull represents the perfect bolt hole in a blow and is a short distance from Oban.
