We held the seventh Annual General Meeting for Brighton Belle Sailing Club on Sunday 4th December at the Cricketer's Arms in the heart of Brighton.
It was great to see so many members and guests there to hear about the results of our club's past year, and to plan some more sailing adventures and club activities for the coming year.
Our Commodore, Stewart Henton, gave a brief summary of the club goals set at last year's AGM, which were to sail relatively locally in the first part of the year to make it easier for prospective members to try us out and hopefully join, to visit London to promote Brighton Belle to some London sailors, to spend some weeks in the English Channel and the West Country and to extend the sailing season by heading for some winter sunshine at the end of the year.
You will see from the 'past events' page that we did this and Brighton Belle is now in the Canaries for the winter.
Our Treasurer gave us a summary of how the accounts have been going. Members will be able to find details in 'members/club documents/' but in brief; having spent £13000 on maintenance and new equipment for Brighton Belle this year, this was all covered by the sailing contributions of members and guests of just £35 per day when they were sailing. So once again, as members we get to own and sail this beautiful yacht and don't have to pay to maintain her, we only pay when we sail on her. Smug grin.
6 new members joined in the last year so we are now 27 members but are still actively looking for more.
Next year's plans were discussed and members seemed keen to cruise to and around the Azores archipelago before heading back to NW Spain, Brittany and the Channel. There was talk of cruising to the Isles of Scilly, Spending some time in the Solent on training days etc. Another cruise to London, and over to Holland perhaps. So that's only about 4500 sea miles! Our sailing program will firm up as cruise events are posted on the events page so keep an eye on it......
