Tenerife and La Gomera with Brighton Belle and Friends

Tenerife February  2017

Janice Dykes

Sunday

Flew out Saturday 13:50 from Gatwick EasyJet. Landed Tenerife 6:30 ish and then wild taxi ride to Marina San Miguel.

I was the last to arrive: Stuart,Stewart, Judith, Richard, Charles all settled in. Dinner of fish and spinach- lovely, some wine and then sleep. In the morning headed out to sea.... hugely variable conditions from no wind to 30+. Rumours of whales but that was all. We berthed in La Gomera San Sebastian and walked into town for food and wine.

Monday

Left Marina and headed N to go anti-clockwise round La Gomera. First part ok but not much to see with cloud over La Gomera and Mt Teide hard to see. North of island clearer, fabulous atmospheric views and lots of amazing hamlets clinging to cliff edges.... headed to Valle Grand Rey and spent night at anchor in the bay. Dolphins cavorted in the sunset.

Tuesday

Dinghy to town and lots of spare time to sit and look. Back to BB to set off. Moored up in a bay for lunch and had really good view of dolphins - where are these whales Stewart?? Then back to complete the island circuit to moor back in Marina La Gomera. We ate at El Pajar..... mountains of fish- no really.... mountains!

Wednesday

Left Marina with a variety of options but after various wind changes decision made to head for Tenerife. Lunch anchored off Masca beach and then headed to Los Gigantas Marina where berthing was very tricky.

Thursday

Was going to be land day but but cloudy so it's a sea day... sailed out of Los Gigantes into flat sea and no wind. Beautiful sunny day and .... whales!!!! Yes really - loads! Pods of pilot whales and a few dolphins.

They stayed 2 hours by us with really good sightings. The wind picked up after they left us and had a good sail back to Marina San Miguel. Ate at a Thai restaurant.

Friday

Land based day- car hire organised.  We were joined by Julie and Peter- delightful company. We had 2 cars and headed up to Mt Teide - great views. Cable car shut due to high winds but views still lovely. The others went yomping up a hill but I stayed back... a bit weak at the time. Then back to the Marina via pretty little towns...ate on board.

Saturday

Rain! Windy night and beautiful rainbow this morning. Bit of cleaning then airport. Off we go- thanks everyone for a great week.

I wanna see the whales!

Sounds like you had a great trip, Janice. And I'm very jealous about the whales.
